Margo is known for her striking and original sense of style, and often made her own hats, such as the one pictured here; the painting is titled "Dream of Flying" (1950), and was inspired by her daughter Mia (then six), who had recently undergone surgery and described her experience under anesthesia as being like flying, or floating in space
